30th ANNIVERSARY — BREAKING THROUGH THE GLOBAL Thirty Years On, the Belief That Started SomapaIT Has Become Its Proof

Thirty years ago, SomapaIT began with a belief: that a Thai technology company could master the complexity of border management and bring that expertise to the world. Thirty years later, that belief has become its proof — and a global network built on trust. SomapaIT marked its 30th anniversary on 18 August 2026 in Bangkok under the theme “Breaking Through the Global,” celebrating three decades of innovation and a journey that has taken Thai technology and expertise beyond the country’s borders.

The celebration brought together representatives of the Royal Thai Government, senior public sector officials, ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from more than 20 countries, customers and partners from more than 10 countries, business partners from Thailand and overseas, and global technology vendors and partners. Their presence reflected more than three decades of trust and shared progress — and the global network that has grown around SomapaIT. This network — connecting governments and customers, diplomatic communities, business partners and global technology leaders — has become an essential part of SomapaIT’s journey beyond Thailand. Together, these relationships connect markets, expertise and opportunities, enabling Thai technology and people to reach further into the world. Then came Laos — SomapaIT’s first work beyond Thailand and the true beginning of its international story. The government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic placed its trust in a Thai company that had never worked abroad. That decision opened the door to everything that followed.

That experience shaped what SomapaIT is today: not simply a technology provider, but a company with the expertise to make technology work in the real conditions of each country it serves.

This is what brought SomapaIT to Papua New Guinea and Liberia, two borders on opposite sides of the world. In Papua New Guinea, SomapaIT and the national immigration authority built an intelligence-led border where an arriving traveller can be known to authorities before departure. In Liberia, the transformation moved from paper records to a digital border. These achievements demonstrate more than technology delivered overseas. They demonstrate Thai expertise trusted across borders.

The ASOCIO Global Business Service Award, awarded to SomapaIT in 2025, further recognised this model — co-developing systems with governments, embedding service delivery rather than simply shipping a product, and ensuring that each country retains sovereign control of its own border.

The model was first tested in Laos, proven in Thailand and carried to the world. Its success has also been strengthened by the network around it: customers and governments, diplomatic relationships, business partners across Thailand and internationally, and global technology vendors whose capabilities complement SomapaIT’s expertise.

As modern border management continues to evolve, SomapaIT is moving into its next chapter. Systems that once simply recorded what happened at a frontier are increasingly able to anticipate what is coming, with Artificial Intelligence opening new possibilities for smarter and more predictive border management. Yet while the technology continues to advance, one principle remains unchanged.

Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra delivered a keynote address on security challenges and international cooperation in the modern border environment.
