SomapaIT Marks International Identity Day 2026

Bangkok, 16 September 2026 — As a proud coalition partner of International Identity Day, SomapaIT reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness about the importance of legal identity for all. This year’s theme, "My Identity, My Shadow, Never Apart," speaks directly to the work of SomapaIT. A shadow does not leave a person’s side as they move through the world, and neither should their identity. At every stage of a journey — before travel, on arrival, within a country, and on departure — a traveller’s identity should follow them as a single, unbroken thread, not a series of disconnected checks that have to be re-established each time. That principle sits at the centre of how SomapaIT designs border management systems.

Liberia is a striking example of what that commitment looks like in practice. Since officially adopting 16 September as National Identification Day in 2023, Liberia has observed it every year as a presidentially-proclaimed working holiday — a level of sustained national commitment matched by only a handful of countries worldwide. SomapaIT has worked alongside the Liberia Immigration Service since December 2024, and in May 2026 that partnership reached a further milestone with the launch of the Liberia eBorder Solution Foundation Program at Roberts International Airport. According to Mr. Nigel Manns, Executive Vice President for Global Government Engagement at SomapaIT, Liberia’s decision to mark this day every year is not a formality: over eighteen months of working alongside the Liberia Immigration Service, he said, SomapaIT has seen that same seriousness at every level of the relationship. Identity and border management, he added, are two sides of the same problem — and Liberia understands that as well as any government SomapaIT has worked with.
