Somapa Information Technology (SomapaIT), a global leader in Smart Border Solutions, proudly served as the Platinum Sponsor of the recently concluded Border Security Week – East Africa, hosted with the support and leadership of the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC). This milestone marks SomapaIT’s platinum sponsorship across all three Border Security Week events held in East, West, and Southern Africa this year, reinforcing the company’s commitment to fostering collaboration, dialogue, and innovation in border management across the continent.

The East Africa forum convened senior officials from immigration, customs, defence, and security agencies, reaffirming the region’s leading role in advancing modern and integrated border systems. Delegates explored emerging technologies, institutional readiness, interoperability, and the balance between secure borders and efficient facilitation of travel and trade—key themes aligned with SomapaIT’s approach to smart, future‑ready border solutions.

Mr Nigel Manns, Executive Vice President for Global Government Engagement at SomapaIT, commended Uganda Immigration’s leadership in hosting the event and contributing to its success, noting that East Africa continues to demonstrate continental leadership in border modernisation. He emphasised that the company’s solutions are designed to strengthen national security while facilitating legitimate movement and supporting economic growth.

Discussions throughout the event highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, information sharing, and capacity building. SomapaIT reiterated that sustainable border modernisation requires alignment between technology, policy, and people, and that institutional strengthening, change management, and skills transfer are essential components of effective reform.

SomapaIT was proud to facilitate the third Border Security Week workshop on Border Modernisation, building on the platform for delegates to explore the challenges and opportunities facing border agencies, as seen at the Southern and West Africa BSW events in 2025. The session promoted open sharing of experiences, practical insights, and solutions—reflecting Somapa’s core approach of working collaboratively with partner countries. By engaging closely with governments and sharing our expertise, we support the design and implementation of solutions that are tailored to each country’s unique operational realities and national priorities”.

SomapaIT expressed its appreciation to the Uganda DCIC for hosting the event and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing engagement with East African border agencies. The company looks forward to continuing its support for the Border Security Week series in 2026 and to deepening its collaboration with agencies across the continent as they pursue ambitious and forward‑looking border reform agendas.
